History Of Fathers Day...

Fathers Day started out in America, and the person who is credited for its origins is Sonora Smart Dodd from Washington, whose father raised her and her five sisters after their mother died during childbirth. She had the idea in 1909 while listening to a preaching on Mothers Day, which was becoming established as a holiday at around that time.

Religious leaders supported her idea, and the first Father's Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910. The reason for the date was that June was the month of the birth date of Dodd's father.

It took several decade to become nationally established, and in 1966 President Johnson officially announced it a national holiday and it became a decreed by law in 1972. It moved over to Europe shortly after that and has subsequently become a lot more commercialised.
