Back in the '80s, long before the advent of that annoying couple on the telecommunications adverts, fiber optics were more than just a networking technology. In fact, fiber optic technology has been used for more than just broadband internet for nearly one hundred years.

How so? Well the light transmitting qualities of fiber optics are great for, you know, transmitting light. Back in the '70s, certain creative lighting types came up with putting a bunch of optical fibers into a stand, and shining a light through the fibers to create a weird mound of lit strands.

And now 40 years later the Ice Starlight not only resurrects this most funky of lighting devices, but also adds it's own little twist to the original formula. Because as well as the optical fibers which provide the main focus of attention, the Ice Starlight also has a funky base which looks like a load of mini ice cubes.

As the LEDs mounted in the base of the Ice Starlight cycle their colours, watch in amazement as the optical fibers atop the unit change colour, seeming to pulse and causing the light to dance. The light also shines out of the ice cube base, creating a second, hypnotic light effect. The Ice Starlight is simultaneously relaxing and stimulating. The gentle pulsing colours of the fibers are counterbalanced by the intrinsic wonder of how the Ice Starlight lamp works.

Another aspect of this update on the original fiber optic lamp, is the change from mains to battery power. Now you can take your Ice Starlight wherever you like and use it whenever you need a shot of '70s decor. The Ice Starlight is a great desk accessory, but may look equally good on the parcel shelf of your car, on your coffee table at home, or as part of the decoration for a '70s themed party.

We love the gently pulsing colours of the Ice Starlight lamp. In fact we wasted several hours just staring at it when testing in the office. You have been warned!
