While honesty is often described as 'the best policy', there are those of us
who aren't so sure. Being honest is a noble thing but when you've irrevocably
buggered things up at work, surely honesty will only land in you in yet another
world of trouble. So, you might want to consider living your life - working life
at least - by a code that has served many generations of politicians well
enough, allowing them to reap the benefits associated with office, while never
having to take responsibility for the royal mess they've made of everything.
The code? Well, it's simple and spelled out in unmissable white lettering on our
executive sign: "Never do today that which will become someone else's
responsibility tomorrow". So leave put off sending that email, or writing
that report, provided you can blame it on someone further down the food chain
tomorrow, it's all ok.
Responsibility is, frankly, overrated and the less of it that comes your way,
the better. So put a sign up to let everyone know your stance on the subject,
then there can be no accusations of back-stabbing or such like. You've pointed
it out, you've even got a handy man-running-for-an-exit motif on there, so even
the most illiterate of employees will appreciate your standpoint. Go on, you owe
it to yourself.
Absolutely fantastic, and what a great rule by which to lead office life! Anybody who doesn't want one of these on their door is clearly a work-a-holic who enjoys all of the pressure of missing deadlines. Rebecca Owen - Cambridgeshire
