If, like us, you find getting up in the morning a Herculean struggle, we may have just found the answer. Before alarm clocks, it was your body's natural clock and the sun rising that awoke you.

That or the sound of a man in a loin cloth pointing a sharp stick at your head. In any case, the modern alarm clock doesn't mimic nature's way in any shape or form, jolting you from your slumber with a piercing caterwaul.

Not the best way to wake up. Not by a long chalk, which is why we decided to bring you the perfect fusion of old and new in the shape of the Rise and Shine Clock. No ordinary alarm clock, this. No, the Rise and Shine has built in nature sounds and a light that gradually illuminates your room, copying the natural, gradual sunrise.

You can select from a wide range of soothing sounds including; birds singing, ocean waves, brook, summer night, rain, dawn, heartbeat, beep, phone tone or traditional alarm bell.

Please note: The light is not designed to be a lamp and fully light a room, and just gives very low level lighting, to maximise its therapeutic effect. The way the alarm works is that at first the there is no light and calming nature sounds occur. Then, when you gently tap the top of the clock to acknowledge the sounds, a gradual lighting starts to occur.

Main Features:

Simulates the rising sun with choice of sounds
At the alarm time you hear the sounds of nature then tap the clock for a gentle glowing light that gradually brightens and then dims
In the snooze mode this will be repeated 4 times every 3 minutes. So you will wake naturally over a 15-minute period
Select from sounds including birds singing, ocean waves, brook, summer night, rain, dawn, heartbeat, beep, phone tone or alarm bell
Full function digital alarm clock with large display
Temperature, date, count-down time and special birthday reminder features
Measures 10 x 10 x 7cm
Uses 3 x AA batteries or mains adapter (neither included)

This clock looks stylish in my room and I have to say that since I've been using the "natural light" system to wake up, I've been a lot more uplifted in the mornings too.
