It's a funny old game. A game of two halves, more important than life and death, if you believe some people. But football needs to either be watched while munching pies and supping beer or played in a Sunday league in sub-zero temperatures.

Now there's an answer for the man who wants his football fix but either can't be bothered running around for 90 minutes, or wants a little more say in the outcome than he has while taking in the action from the comfort of his favourite armchair.

The perfect game for an afternoon in the pub, The League is a card-based game that involves building up an attack by using the right cards at the right time. If you have several attacking cards, you can go on a mazy run towards goal and try and get a rocket of a shot past the keeper. If your opponent has been clever and kept tackle cards, though, you'll soon find yourself dispossessed. That would all be a little too simple if it wasn't for dubious referee decisions, spectacular saves penalties, near-misses and 'wonder goals'.

If you it's the excitement of football you're after, without the hell of 90 minutes of wheezing round a pitch chasing the ball, The League could well be the answer.
